The anointed one who God promised the Jews would come to restore the throne of David and establish his kingdom forever. One cannot blame the Jews for expecting a warrior king. When Jesus refused to lead a revolt against the Romans, the Jews were understandably disappointed. It turns out that God had a very different kind of messiah and a different kind of kingdom in mind.
